Like the descriptions says, this topic exists purely as a survey. It is not to debate the existance of God, Gods, Flying Pasta Monsters, etc.
If your faith is not listed, please blame mmy ignorance/poll limitiations. Just post your faith, and try to avoid flame wars. Let's keep this civilized.
Again for emphasis:
CIVILIZED.
Please, if you have questions about someone's faith (or lack thereof), ask. But if you just hold a vendetta against a religion (or religion in general) or just want to start a flame war....stay away.
That being said, I am Maronite Catholic. We are like Roman Catholics in litrugy, but use the Syriac language in our services, which is similar to Aramaic. THere are minor differences, but we are much like Roman Catholics. If a Maronite parish is not available in an area (which is often the case in the United States), we attent Roman Catholic churches (like I do here in South Carolina).

Any particular denomination? I see you've selected Other-is it one that I've missed?
I am very sorry if so-but I ran out of options on the poll. Again, my extreme apologies.

Nope. No denomination in particular.

Ironic-I had thought of putting Christian up without denominations, but decided that was too exclusionary.

Ugh, AK. WHY!? I'm a non-denominational Christian, and since I'm NOT a fan of Catholicism, I chose Baptist.
Which, my father is... But... I'm NON-Denominational.

I'm Lutheran, much better then Catholic, they ain't asking you for money a lot and they also give their pastors more rights, unlike the Catholics.

Remember what I said about flaming?

I am stating my opinions, not flaming, flaming is when you just scream about something at someone

Since this is about religion, though, I want to avoid ANY possible disagreement. The politics thread teters on that sometimes, and I want this thread to be harmonious....more or less. I was thinking of doing one on ethnicity later as well-trying to get a feel for the demographic of this forum.

No- don't do one on ethnicity. That's useless. Ethnicity doesn't even matter...

it doesnt matter which religion we have i think every religion discribes one and the same god. also a religion is our clue to explorer the truth before science explorer the world.

I think what Arabian Knight means is that he wanted a thread where we can ask about other religions rather than having discussions that involve a debate in any way. (Confrontational opinions being considered part of this and therefore irrelevant.)
I'm non-religious, though I may be drifting toward being agnostic.

What a long strange trip it's been so far for me.
Lutheran > Agnostic > Non-religious > Agnostic (peered into the Hollow Earth Theory) > Non-religious
It's ongoing. I'm a huge supporter of
science and
evolution. In my opinion, organized religion is a scam. Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Neil Degrasse Tyson, and Carl Sagan re-enforced this for me. However, I am beginning to believe
Pandeism.
All in all, there is what we do know (science), and what we don't know (faith).

So far, it seems as if the forum is evenly split between Non-Religious (4) and Religious members (9).
Thanks to all those who voted. Remember to keep arguement out of this topic (Not accusing anyone-you all have been good about that).

Best of all worlds, I see.
I mean...
HOW DARE YOU STEAL OUR HOLIDAYS!!!
But how do you afford Hanukah gifts and Christmas gifts in the same month?

I went to school with Jewish twins (boy and girl). Their mom was Jewish and the dad was baptist I think. Anyhow, as they were growing up, they celebrated both Jewish and Christian holidays. I, along with everyone else hated it because they were also pretty wealthy, meaning that by New Year's Eve, they had all the best and coolest toys of that year. Good thing we were good friends.

BTW, I noticed that the OP conveniently left out Pastafarianism (Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster) and followers of the Invisible Pink Unicorn. Why did you choose to exclude these reasonable religions?
Arabian Knight
Apr 1 2010, 02:57 AM
Because Non-Religious is included.

EDIT: And because this is a survey, not a debate topic.

Because anybody who believes in a flying spaghetti monster is an idiot.
I don't care WHO I offend with that.

To say those are not valid religions is insulting. One religion does not topple over another.
I apologize if anyone thought I was inciting a debate. It's impossible to debate over spirituality and religion. Americans already know that.
Just out of curiosity, what are the opinions about the Westboro Baptist Church? That's a valid religion.
Daruchias
Apr 1 2010, 05:47 AM
... Are you stupid? "Members" of the Spaghetti thing DON'T take themselves seriously. It's a JOKE, Y.E.M....
I mean, come on dude...
Now, Westboro, hell if I care.

I must agree with Daru....its members only join to attempt to point out what they see as religion's flaws. They have everything a religion needs, in their eyes: a deity, a structure, a core of adherents, and a proposed doctrine.
However, they're missing the key component of any religion, the very thing that makes them distrust religion in the first place:
Faith.
None of them actually have faith in a giant flying spaghetti beast, and that's that. Muslims truly believe in what the Qoran and the Prophet Mohammed preach, and Catholics truly believe the Pope is a servant of God. Baptists truly believe in spreading what they see as the Word of God. Hindus truly believe in reincarnation.
I do not think any members of the Pastafarian religion truly believe in what they say is their deity. A "what if I believe in a flying spaghetti monster...." hypothetical arguement is not a substitute for truly believing in a religion. But.....
THIS IS NOT A DEBATE TOPIC, NOR DO I WISH IT TO BECOME ONE.
I have only outlined my reasons for not including the Pastafarians on my list. Even if I had wanted to, I ran out of poll options anyway. So there's no way I can include it and I refuse to remove another religion because, as you said, no one religion trumps another.
So, with all due respect, let's move on.

I'm Methodist. and about Catholics believing the Pope is a servant of God, I thought all people were a servant of God. Maybe I didn't understand it correctly

I must say then, you have set up the poll very poorly. I would have done this:
- Christian
- Judaism
- Islam
- Buddist
- Hinduism
- Atheism
- Agnosticism (as opposed to Gnosticism)
- Other (please state)
The fact that you listed a whole bunch of Christian denominations doesn't do your poll any justice.
FSM members truly believe that you
cannot disprove a such deity. If that is not a belief, then you're notions of a religion are skewed and incorrect. FSM followers have faith that their Noodly God cannot be pushed aside as nothing.
EDIT: not a debate whatsoever, but I am defending FSM because you guys seem to really dislike it.

. Sorry dude? You really must hate those satire religions.
Anyhow, seeing that this took away from the meaning of the thread, I'm curious what the beliefs are of the 2 "Others" voters. You can say I'm an amateur sociologist.

QFT!
I think the pastafarians are a bunch of nuts (in a good sense of the word) standing up for what they believe in.
As satirical religions go, it gets 5/5 stars from me *thumbs up*.
Although, I myself am a non-denominational christian also. I voted for Baptist though, 'cuz I hang out at a baptist church.
